Frequently Asked Questions

  • To get started, fill out the Therapy Intake Form linked to the "Make An Appointment" button. Beth Brawley, MA, LPC, will give you a call back/respond via email (your preference) within two-to-three business days.

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the current gold standard for treating OCD. It is also used to treat anxiety disorders, including specific phobias (e.g., needles, spiders, vomiting), social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, health/illness anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia, and eating disorders.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a subtype of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and both ERP and CBT differ from talk therapy. Yes, we will talk (you may be very bored if we don't!), but ERP is focused explicitly on shifting how we engage with anxiety, which can shift how we experience anxiety. This is done through a behavioral, goal-oriented approach.

Our goal is not a life entirely without anxiety (as anxiety in moderation can be a helpful tool our brains use to warn us of danger), but rather to live a life without anxiety living in the driver's seat of our lives.

  • Taking medication is not a requirement for working with Beth or Kerry. This is a personal decision made with the help and guidance of your physician. Neither Beth nor Kerry can prescribe medication. The International OCD Foundation has a helpful article regarding medication management and therapeutic dosage for individuals with OCD.

  • The first session will look more like an intake than a formal therapy session. We want to get a good understanding of how your anxiety has been impacting your day-to-day living. You'll notice we ask a LOT of questions in the beginning, and this is why. You are the expert on your anxiety experience; we have the tools to help.

Anxiety thrives in the nooks and crannies of our life; we want to leave no stone unturned so we don't miss a part of what is keeping the excessive anxiety around.

  • Honestly, it's up to you! (How's that for a non-answer?) Your identified goals and willingness to employ techniques outside of our sessions are part of determining how long we meet. For example, some individuals come to therapy with one goal/specific piece of anxiety they wish to address, and then they are on their way. Others approach anxiety therapy not only with specific anxiety-recovery goals but also wish to address other aspects of their life experience.

This is all okay! You are the author of what you wish to create. (Sounds cheesy, and yet I mean it!)

  • Typically, we recommend starting with weekly appointments. This helps us hit the ground running and fine-tune what is helpful and what needs prioritizing. Based on progress, we then scale back. The goal in scaling ack sessions is for you to see your progress and also for you to see what areas may need some more attention before we discontinue therapy sessions.

At the same time, we understand that therapy needs to work with your lifestyle! Time, energy, and resources may not always allow for the ideal spacing between sessions. Knowing this, we always try to work sessions into what is best for YOU!

  • We are out-of-network with all insurance companies. This means payment is due at each session and will be billed automatically through the secure and HIPAA-compliant client portal. We are happy to provide a superbill (itemized receipt) for you to submit to your insurance company for any potential out-of-network benefits your plan may include.

We cannot make any guarantee about what your insurance company will reimburse. However, to learn more about your plan, you can call the customer service number on your insurance card and ask what your out-of-network mental health benefits include.

Sessions with Beth Brawley LPC (Owner/Founder) are $225/per 50-minute session. Sessions with Kerry Gallagher LPC are $160/per 50-minute session. At this time, we do not have sliding scale openings.

  • We require at least 24 hours notice when canceling your session to avoid the late cancellation/no-show fee, which is the full session rate.

  • We currently offer both in-person and online therapy sessions.
